April fundraising update

The training for the Staines 10K on Sunday May 13th is going okay – completed to 5K Park Runs at Bedfont Lakes in the past few weeks coming in at 33 minutes each time. I did lapse last week being on hols and with my folks visiting but aim to get back running again this week.

With a recent generous donation the total raised for Children with Cancer UK currently stands at £172.66

Online now is a tour jacket as worn by keyboards player John Sinclair (ex-Uriah Heep) during his touring days with Ozzy Osbourne in the late 80’s. Thanks to plugs on Twitter by former Ozzy bassists Rudy Sarzo and Phil Sousson it now stands at £21.00:

Signed Steve Winwood item for Children with Cancer UK

A signed Steve Winwood guitar scratch plate is online here raising funds for Children with Cancer UK. Also look out for soon a very kind donation from former Ozzy/Uriah Heep keyboards player John Sinclair, a tour jacket he wore when onstage with Ozzy in the 80’s! More details soon.

Running wise I completed another Park Run on Saturday, again 33 minutes for 5KM. Enjoyed this one more than last weeks! I have signed up with Jogging Buddy a website that links you up with fellow runners/joggers locally. I have two buddies so far and be nice to have a couple of running buddies as company keeps me running quicker.

Easyfundraising & Carers Support Spelthorne

Here’s an easy way to raise funds for your favorite cause from charities through to schools and local sports clubs. Simply find your cause on EasyFundraising and then every time you shop online or do a survey a % of your sale or a set fee goes to your chosen cause. They also have EasySearch for all your internet searches, although the money raise this way tends to be lower.

I have added Carers Support Spelthorne for my cause. They support unpaid Carers who are caring for a relative, friend or neighbour. They currently have over 800 Carers on their mailing list, all of whom live in the borough of Spelthorne. Their Carers Support Workers can offer information, advocacy, advice and support. They are able to make home visits, be contacted by telephone or meet in a mutually convenient location or you can visit us in the office.

Its free to register and you can raise some funds for a cause you want to support.

***Training update:

I did another twenty minutes tonight although feeling tired after doing three runs in the space of five days so will have a couple of rest days to recover. Been trying these Zero High5 drink tablets given away with the latest issue of ‘Running and Fitness’ magazine. They look like solphadine as they fizz in the water but thankfully taste nicer! They are meant to aid recovery after exercise and help in fat loss. Taste okay but not sure what effects they have. Any other runners/joggers out there  can recommend me a decent post-run recovery drink?

Signed Limahl CD raising funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation UK

BIG thanks to Limahl who has kindly donated a signed KajaGooGoo signed ‘best of’ CD/DVD, a signed copy of ‘The Never Ending Story’ (he sang the title track), a signed photo and a signed good luck photo which takes pride of place on my new Wall page.

NB If you’re a Stoke City fan like me you may replace the chorus with ‘Tuncay, shy shy, Huth, Huth, Abdoulaye’

First Park Run in two years completed today :)

Completed my first Park Run at Bedfont Lakes today in just over 33 minutes. The Park Run’s are well worth doing. They are 5K, held usually every Saturday, free to enter and start at 9am – you can click here to see where your nearest one is.

For the statos amongst you the Park Run team keep all your results including PB’s and you gain points for each run to go on a leaderboard. Plus they are as the name suggests in parks so if like me your a pavement pounder it makes a great change and easier on the knees.

Fundraising totals update

Thanks to a very generous soul, my fundraising total for Children with Cancer UK ahead of the Staines 10K now tops over £170 🙂

Big thanks to them and all who have supported/spread the word so far.

Over on the charity auctions for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK a load of requests have gone out to various bands/comedians/sports people I like. Already had a pledge of a signed DVD from John Bishop who completed a grueling cycle/row/run from Paris to London for Sports Relief. A short excerpt of his running:

I was so inspired I am up for another marathon! What a great effort on his behalf and over £3m raised.

A warm ‘un tonight plus another charity auction online

Nice three mile run completed tonight but it wasn’t half hot mum! Managed to keep running all the way and certainly enjoying my running again, helped by the lighter and warmer evenings.

Tonight’s soundtrack included the mighty Power Quest, Mad Max, Big Country, Donnie Vie and Slam Cartel.

The first signed Danny Peyronal (X-UFO/UFO/Heavy Metal Kids) raised £6.50 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK and the second & final signed CD is online now here. Let’s see if we can beat that total 🙂

More signed goodies soon and as ever any contacts or donated items gratefully received.

The idea is to have a whole host of gigs/events mention via their social media posts the work of the Nordoff Robbins charity on and around the 8 February each year
