Training and the Staines 10K

Good to see the Staines 10K on Sunday May 19th has nearly reached its 600 entrants maximum and raised over £400 for charity through entrance fees. I am running and raising funds for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).

I am doing a couple of runs per week at the moment although the warmer weather does tend to entice me out more. Yes I freely admit I am a fair weather runner 🙂

Still looking for a half marathon between June and late August. My home town Potters ‘Arf would be ideal but I can’t make that weekend. Any suggestions most welcome.

Hope to have some more signed goodies soon. Have a fair few requests out there and just hoping some respond.

My JustGiving pages are:

http://www.justgiving.com/stokie2013 (for the NDCS)

http://www.justgiving.com/rochdale2013 (for CLAPA)

Any help promoting them very much appreciated.

Staines 10K for next year and possibly Potters ‘Arf

I will be running the Staines 10K again next year on Sunday May 19th for both my chosen charities – CLAPA and NDCS. I am also looking for an early summer half marathon and my hometown my provide one with the Potters ‘Arf on Sunday June 9th. This will be another big challenge and step up after completing ten miles in this year’s Great South Run. Anyone else know of a good (flat!) half marathon in June/July time in the London/Surrey area or Staffordshire/Cheshire please let me know.

Also looking for any companies and/or bands who’d like to endorse my running and fundraising in anyway. I will for example happily road test say any new confectionary or sweets 🙂

Another 10K on the horizon for Children with Cancer UK :)

So following the gauntlet laid down by two people (who both pledged another fiver each) to do another 10K this year and try to complete it in under one hour I have entered the Elmbridge 10k on Sunday 22nd July:

I will be running again for Children with Cancer UK and keeping my Just Giving page going for a wee while longer.

I am running the Staines 10K on Sunday for Children with Cancer UK

It’s the Staines 10K this Sunday and already due to kind donations my fundraising for Children with Cancer UK stands at…

£268

…but any more donations most welcome 🙂

My JustGiving page is http://www.justgiving.com/stokie2012 and you can donate by text as well. Simply text:

HFYT67 £1 (or more if you can) to 70070

Thank you 🙂

It’s race month & being a fan of Magnum helps raise funds

Getting nervous now as we enter race month and just under a fortnight to go now until the Staines 10K on Sunday May 13th. Few more training runs although the recent downpours mean I tend to stay indoors. I will run in hot, cold, snow but not in heavy rain unless I have too!

Tried out one of the running apps you can get for your phone. Worked well but seems a battery guzzler and you get distracted by a) checking how far you have run so far and b) your miles per hour pace. Still good way of comparing your training routes and times.

The total raised for Children with Cancer UK currently stands at £243.00 with a couple of paper sponsorship pledges coming in plus a kind donation by someone I have never met, only through Facebook and our mutual liking of the mighty Magnum & Bob Catley. Proof indeed that soicial media can be a good thing if used wisely.

Any other runners out there doing the Staines 10K at all?

Children with Cancer fundraising now tops £200!

Thanks to my employer’s A2Dominion they have added a further £50 to the fundraising pot through the scheme whereby they match your fundraising up to £50 for an individual. This is part of their ‘Giving something back’ to the wider community that also includes community engagement programmes, opportunities to volunteer, and caring for the environment. This helps push the total to over £200 so a BIG thanks again to them for this!

April fundraising update

The training for the Staines 10K on Sunday May 13th is going okay – completed to 5K Park Runs at Bedfont Lakes in the past few weeks coming in at 33 minutes each time. I did lapse last week being on hols and with my folks visiting but aim to get back running again this week.

With a recent generous donation the total raised for Children with Cancer UK currently stands at £172.66

Over to the charity auctions for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK and the total currently is £267.96.

Online now is a tour jacket as worn by keyboards player John Sinclair (ex-Uriah Heep) during his touring days with Ozzy Osbourne in the late 80’s. Thanks to plugs on Twitter by former Ozzy bassists Rudy Sarzo and Phil Sousson it now stands at £21.00:

The recent signed Limahl CD fetched £15, three signed flyers from the Brotherhood Of Man raised £15 and there are signed items coming soon from comedian John Bishop amongst others.

Signed Steve Winwood item for Children with Cancer UK

A signed Steve Winwood guitar scratch plate is online here raising funds for Children with Cancer UK. Also look out for soon a very kind donation from former Ozzy/Uriah Heep keyboards player John Sinclair, a tour jacket he wore when onstage with Ozzy in the 80’s! More details soon.

Running wise I completed another Park Run on Saturday, again 33 minutes for 5KM. Enjoyed this one more than last weeks! I have signed up with Jogging Buddy a website that links you up with fellow runners/joggers locally. I have two buddies so far and be nice to have a couple of running buddies as company keeps me running quicker.

First Park Run in two years completed today :)

Completed my first Park Run at Bedfont Lakes today in just over 33 minutes. The Park Run’s are well worth doing. They are 5K, held usually every Saturday, free to enter and start at 9am – you can click here to see where your nearest one is.

For the statos amongst you the Park Run team keep all your results including PB’s and you gain points for each run to go on a leaderboard. Plus they are as the name suggests in parks so if like me your a pavement pounder it makes a great change and easier on the knees.

Fundraising totals update

Thanks to a very generous soul, my fundraising total for Children with Cancer UK ahead of the Staines 10K now tops over £170 🙂

Big thanks to them and all who have supported/spread the word so far.

Over on the charity auctions for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK a load of requests have gone out to various bands/comedians/sports people I like. Already had a pledge of a signed DVD from John Bishop who completed a grueling cycle/row/run from Paris to London for Sports Relief. A short excerpt of his running:

I was so inspired I am up for another marathon! What a great effort on his behalf and over £3m raised.
