The sun was out and it was race day! After a delay in getting the venue due to heavy traffic from a local car boot the race was delayed until 9:30 am. Luckily it gave me time to warm-up, resplendent in my Mr Men running vest. Over 700 runners registered (the ‘Race Full’ signs were up), although strangely only 500 odd finished. It was very warm and tempers did flare behind me with runners berating the car boot traffic and vice versa. The race itself was a nice flat course although the Thames towpath part may have been picturesque but the stony path played merry hell on my feet. I didn’t manage to break the hour mark but did finish in 1 hr 5 mins – two minutes quicker than my Staines time back in May (making it my fastest 10K since 1999). There was a very nice bronze medal with an Olympic theme, which was last seen disappearing with my son and his toy box…

I have raised £457 for Children with Cancer UK. Any help you can give in plugging my fundraising page would be much appreciated:

My second 10K of 2012 is this weekend and once again I will be donning my Mr Men running vest in aid of Children with Cancer UK. To date I have raised £422 and I have at least another £20 pledged should I finish it in under one hour (the last time I did a 10K in under an hour was back in the late 90’s!). Any help you can give in plugging my fundraising page would be much appreciated:www.justgiving.com/stokie2012
Those kind folk at the charity also sent me a poncho in the post for race day although hopefully it will stay dry. It is a sizable field with 716 entrants and the course takes in the Thames as well the back of the local Tescos.
I am also continuing my auctions of signed items kindly donated by celebrities, comedians, sports people & musicians raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. To date I have raised £455 with recent signed items from John Bishop, Hawkwind and Ken Dodd. Any help on getting signed items much appreciated.

The training continues for my 10K on the 22nd of this month, spurred on by my online trainer (who is now going to join me for an after work jog). The Elmbridge 10K now has over 470 entries and the route takes in part of the Thames towpath, along with the less glamorous back end of a Tesco’s Extra. My four year old son has been encouraging from the side-lines telling me to eat more pasta and potatoes!
Just over £410 has now been raised for Children with Cancer UK:

Rising blues rock guitarist Chantel McGregor kindly donated two more signed CD’s as she aims to raise £100 for my fundraising. A signed DVD from comedian John Bishop is currently at £5.50 :

So following the gauntlet laid down by two people (who both pledged another fiver each) to do another 10K this year and try to complete it in under one hour I have entered the Elmbridge 10k on Sunday 22nd July:

The idea is to have a whole host of gigs/events mention via their social media posts the work of the Nordoff Robbins charity on and around the 8 February each year
