Signed Tom Bromley books for charity

Thanks to author Tom Bromley there are three signed books of his raising funds for CLAPA and the NDCS:

‘Wired for Sound: Now That’s What I Call An 80’s Music Childhood’ bid here

‘All In The Best Possible Taste: Growing Up Watching Telly In The 80’s’ bid here

The third book on one hit wonders will be online soon. Having read all  three books I can highly recommend them, so you get a great read plus you help a charity at the same time. Thanks again to Tom Bromley and do pop along to his website http://www.tombromley.co.uk/

I am also working on getting signed items for the Stoke City £150 fundraising (to tie0in with the club’s 150th anniversary) for the two charities. I am aiming to raise £150 for CLAPA & the NDCS through these signed Stoke City related items. Any contacts for Stoke players past and present gratefully received.

Thanks to TV chef legend Ainsley Harriott for donating a signed photo raising funds for the NDCS (National Deaf Children’s Society). You can bid on it here

More signed goodies soon 🙂

In running news I have signed up for my first race of 2013 with the Staines 10K on Sunday May 19th. This one I will be running for the NDCS and then I plan to do another 10K in July for CLAPA and then all being well a half-marathon in August/September time.

I am also looking at getting some sigend items related to Stoke City FC who celebrate their 150th anniversary this year. My idea is to raise at least £150 from related Stoke City items for the two charities.

It’s all to help spread the word on my three runs (two down and the Great South Run to come on 28th October) this year to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK.

Staines 10K completed and £343 raised for Children with Cancer UK :)

A nice earlier start (6.15 am) to have my pre-race breakfast and then it was off with my daughter who was my race support/official photographer.

(With my Get Ready To Rock! t-shirt – too warm to wear on the run)

(Hoping for some Coca Cola freebies thanks to subtle product placement)

(No matter how much spinach I ate I still couldn’t push this pesky wall down)

After the joys of trying to fit one of those pesky race chips onto my shoe it was time to line up for the off!

(Luckily I could wear my Stoke City top after having to wear a P*** V*** top last time I did this run back in 2010 as part of my fundraising and wearing a Shirt Of Hurt)

The race itself was perfect as I ran the whole distance, a first for me on this race at my fifth attempt. Nice to see the folk of Staines coming out to cheer the runners along and to see one of my former members of staff from my days at WHS in Staines. There was even some mad fool dressed in a lion’s costume although he finished way ahead of me.

A massive field with over 500 runners (when I first did a Staines 10K back in the 90’s there was just over 200 runners) and my finishing time was 1 hour 7 minutes by the clock or 1 hour 6 minutes by the chip on my shoe. Bizarrely exactly the same times as my 2010 run! The full results can be seen here (I came 451 out of 521 finishers)

If you want a first 10k I would highly recommend this race as it is flat and well organised with a good atmosphere. Plus for the serious runners they can clock up very decent times indeed – the winner came in at just over thirty minutes.

(Chuffed to finish with my finisher’s medal and t-shirt – small size of course!)

(Top support and photos by my daughter who seems overly pleased to be holding the race t-shirt)

An amazing day and £343 currently raised for Children with Cancer UK.
