Fundraising plans for 2013…

Not to achy after the Great South Run on what was an enjoyable run. My fundraising for Children with Cancer UK currently stands at £697.78 (thanks to some recent donations), which added to the £510 raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK gives over £1,200 raised 🙂

There are still a few signed goodies on EBay to be had, with the lively folk rockers Bellowhead sending a signed CD and currently on line is a signed CD from prog rockers Jadis:

What’s next? Well spurred on by this year’s running I am going to attempt a half marathon next May/June time plus the Staines 10K. Ideas for any fundraising most welcome.

I have two charities lined-up, one chosen by Matt Curtis who kindly sponsored me for each of my three races this year. He has chosen the Cleft Lip And Palate Association (CLAPA). Clapa is a support organisation for all those with and affected by cleft lip and palate. One in 700 children are born with this condition – about 1,000 a year in the UK. CLAPA provides information, advice and one to one support through its national network of branches. It also runs confidence-building camps for children and distributes bottles and teats for babies born with cleft lip and palate.

The second one is The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) NDCS is the national charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. We represent the interests and campaign for the rights of all deaf children and young people from birth to independence. NDCS believes that the family is the most important influence on a deaf child’s development. NDCS supports the deaf child through the family as well as directly supporting deaf children and young people themselves.

For these two charities I will again be auctioning off signed goodies via EBay so any contacts much appreciated.

Thank you all again for your support, it is very much appreciated by me and the charities.

Great South Run – completed!

Knackered but finished 🙂 First time I have run further than 10K since 1999. Great day and atmosphere as the people of Pompey made you feel very welcome – even in my Stoke top and scarf. I did get two ‘Come on Stoke!’ on the way round the course. Lovely course running around the historic naval dockyards/HMS Victory and ending up running by the Southsea seafront. The jelly babies counter at nine miles provided a welcome boost  as well. Well organised and run, highly recommended if you fancy a nice flat race.

My finishing time was under two hours – yippee! 1hr 59m 12 secs 15,158th (race field just over 24,000)

Thanks to my lovely kids for their support and musical selections  (my daughter loaded my IPod with delights such as You Me At Six, Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold & Fearless Vampire Killers and I sneaked on some Jimi Jamison, Chris Singleton & Dev Townsend!).

Big thanks to my family, friends, work colleagues, Facebook pals, the bands and authors who kindly donated signed items to auction and all those that have sponsored me, spread the word or liked a Facebook post. I am truly humbled, thanks again.
Now what race next folks 😉

PS Donations still welcome – raising funds for Children with Cancer UK:

Well done all on completing the Great North Run

…well done especially to those running and raising funds for Children with Cancer UK.

The next Great Run will be the one I am in, the South one – yikes!

Nicely over the £500 mark now with my fundraising for Children with Cancer UK but need a push to get up to my £1,000 target. Hopefully a few more signed items soon for auction, stayed tuned 🙂

Auctions and training updates

Some lovely feedback from the recent winner of the Cannon and Ball tickets and meet ‘n’ greet:
‘Looking so forward to the show and meeting them , my dad is a big fan and I was brought up watching them , thank you once again.’

Still chance to bid on a signed Cannon and Ball programme & photo here

All proceeds to Make-A-Wish Foundation UK and BIG thanks again to Cannon & Ball

More signed items for auction soon but any leads and/or donations are always welcome and appreciated.

Training going okay for the Great South Run with a PB today at the Bedfont Lakes Park Run. Do take part in a local Park Run if you can. They are held every Saturday around the UK, starting at 9am and run over 5km. Well organised, friendly and great fun!

Training underway for the great South Run

Training now underway for the Great South Run  – ten miles is a far old hike! But with 23,500 runners expected plus a fairly flat course it will have plenty of atmosphere.

This will be my third run this year for Children with Cancer UK and any help you can give by spreading the word on the Facebook page for my attemtp at the Great South Run:

Plus my Just Giving page:

Thank you

Great South Run next up…

Yes I like a challenge and moving from 10k to ten miles will certainly do that. I am delighted to taking part in the Great South Run and raising funds again for Children with Cancer UK. I will try and think of some whizzy ways to raise more vital funds for this charity – any ideas please do get in touch.

Elmbridge 10K completed

The sun was out and it was race day! After a delay in getting the venue due to heavy traffic from a local car boot the race was delayed until 9:30 am. Luckily it gave me time to warm-up, resplendent in my Mr Men running vest. Over 700 runners registered (the ‘Race Full’ signs were up), although strangely only 500 odd finished. It was very warm and tempers did flare behind me with runners berating the car boot traffic and vice versa. The race itself was a nice flat course although the Thames towpath part may have been picturesque but the stony path played merry hell on my feet. I didn’t manage to break the hour mark but did finish in 1 hr 5 mins – two minutes quicker than my Staines time back in May (making it my fastest 10K since 1999). There was a very nice bronze medal with an Olympic theme, which was last seen disappearing with my son and his toy box…

I have raised £457 for Children with Cancer UK. Any help you can give in plugging my fundraising page would be much appreciated:

BIG thanks to:
My family for their encouragement and support
Matt Curtis – online trainer and the man who inspired me to try & beat an hour
Emma Solomons for suggesting this race
Those kind people who spread the word and sponsored me 🙂

Now what 10K can I line-up for September time…

Elmbridge 10K this weekend :)

My second 10K of 2012 is this weekend and once again I will be donning my Mr Men running vest in aid of Children with Cancer UK. To date I have raised £422 and I have at least another £20 pledged should I finish it in under one hour (the last time I did a 10K in under an hour was back in the late 90’s!). Any help you can give in plugging my fundraising page would be much appreciated:www.justgiving.com/stokie2012

Those kind folk at the charity also sent me a poncho in the post for race day although hopefully it will stay dry. It is a sizable field with 716 entrants and the course takes in the Thames as well the back of the local Tescos.

I am also continuing my auctions of signed items kindly donated by celebrities, comedians, sports people & musicians raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. To date I have raised £455 with recent signed items from John Bishop, Hawkwind and Ken Dodd. Any help on getting signed items much appreciated.

Fundraising update – Elmbridge 10K this month

The training continues for my 10K on the 22nd of this month, spurred on by my online trainer (who is now going to join me for an after work jog). The Elmbridge 10K now has over 470 entries and the route takes in part of the Thames towpath, along with the less glamorous back end of a Tesco’s Extra. My four year old son has been encouraging from the side-lines telling me to eat more pasta and potatoes!

Just over £410 has now been raised for Children with Cancer UK:

http://www.justgiving.com/stokie2012

The Fifty Fifty fundraising of signed items kindly donated by celebrities/bands/sports people now stands at £418.58 raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. Rising blues rock guitarist Chantel McGregor kindly donated two more signed CD’s as she aims to raise £100 for my fundraising. A signed DVD from comedian John Bishop is currently at £5.50 :

Coming soon signed goodies from ‘out there’ rockers Hawkwind and the legendary Ken Dodd!

Another 10K on the horizon for Children with Cancer UK :)

So following the gauntlet laid down by two people (who both pledged another fiver each) to do another 10K this year and try to complete it in under one hour I have entered the Elmbridge 10k on Sunday 22nd July:
http://www.elmbridgeroadrunners.co.uk/pages/2-10K.html

I will be running again for Children with Cancer UK and keeping my Just Giving page going for a wee while longer.
