FIFTY GIGS IN A DAY 2020 RAISES OVER £90 FOR NORDOFF ROBBINS

The total raised was £98.20, made up of £5 donation, £30 raised by Biscuithead & the Badgers at their gig and the rest was raised via eBay from signed items/tickets kindly donated by Ed Byrne, Billy Lockett & Paul Carrack.

Not as much raised as in 2019, however the social media activity was higher this year, which was great to see as the aim of Fifty Gigs In A Day has always been to raise awareness of the Nordoff Robbins charity and music therapy in general. Any funds raised has always been a welcome bonus!

It was going to be the last Fifty Gigs this year, however it is always heartening to see the artists & bands helping spread the word. I will have a look to see if a series of gigs throughout the year plugging the work of Nordoff Robbins, coupled with the annual day of Fifty Gigs on February 8 could work better.

Any suggestions on how to improve and/or gain more exposure for the event are more than welcome. Please get in touch via the contact page.

Still to come…

Dandelion Charm have a gig supporting the Emerald Dawn in Brighton on March 23, full details can be found here

Also Milton Hide play the Stag Inn on February 16

FIFTY GIGS IN A DAY THIS WEEKEND (8/9 FEBRUARY 2020)

The third (and final) 50 Gigs In A Day is this weekend with the aim being to raise awareness of the work done in music therapy by the Nordoff Robbins charity.

A BIG thank you to all the bands and artists taking part this year and if you can get along to support them at one of the shows.

ABOUT NORDOFF ROBBINS

  • Nordoff Robbins is the largest independent music therapy charity in the UK, dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people. We support thousands of people in our own centres and by working in partnership with a wide range of organisations including care homes, schools and hospitals. When delivered by a trained practitioner, music therapy can be used to support people living with a wide range of needs. It can help a child with autism to communicate, reduce anxiety for those living with dementia or provide comfort and celebrate the life of someone facing terminal illness. Music therapy can be life-changing for so many people. https://www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk/about-us/
  • Nordoff Robbins Registered Charity Number: 280960
  • What Donations Can Fund:
£3-£10 could pay for a music instrument, giving a client with autism a way to express themselves beyond words
£20 could pay for a vulnerable child to attend a group music therapy session
£35 could pay for a one-to-one session of life transforming music therapy for someone with dementia
£50 could help us bring comfort and joy to a child suffering from a brain injury during a one-to-one music therapy session
£100 could pay for a music therapy group session at one of our dedicated centres
£150 could pay for half a day of music therapy at a Children’s Centre
£200 could pay for an entire month of one to one music therapy sessions at one of our centres
£300 could pay for a full day of music therapy in a local school for pupils with special educational needs, or in a care home helping older people with dementia unlock memories and communicate with loved ones
£500 could help subsidise 5 children whose families cannot afford to pay full fees to have a term of music therapy through their school

Fairport Convention Newsletetr May 2019

Hello Fairporters,

Generally, it’s been a quiet time for Fairport. However, Chris has been on the road with Feast of Fiddles, Ric has recorded a new album with his trio, and Simon has been walking the Cumbrian mountains in the rain.

It hasn’t rained much here in north Oxfordshire however. In fact, as we write, it’s a lovely spring day outside. Appropriately so, for it is under a week before we head out on our annual Spring Tour which kicks off next Tuesday 7 May in Leamington Spa.

As many of you know our semi-acoustic Spring Tour gives us a chance to try out new arrangements of favourites from our repertoire as well as road-testing some new songs for our forthcoming album. Compared to the Winter Tour gigs, these shows tend to be in smaller venues and have a more intimate feel.

We have thirty shows planned throughout the British Isles. This year we’re crossing the Irish Sea to play in Dublin, Limerick, Armagh, Cork, Kilkenny and Belfast. For these shows across the water we will be accompanied by The 4 of Us who many of you will remember from their appearances as our Winter Tour guests.

We’re really looking forward to this run of gigs and it will be great to see you all.

Have a look on our gigs page for full dates and details.

Cropredy update

Cropredy Festival

Spring is certainly in the air around Cropredy. The meadow grass is growing lusher by the day, the trees are vivid with new foliage and the River Cherwell is glinting and sparkling in the sun as it meanders along the boundary of the festival site. It all adds up to the perfect venue to celebrate our festival’s fortieth anniversary on Thursday 8, Friday 9, and Saturday 10 August 2019.

As we’ve said, we have a great line-up this year. By way of reminder, the headliners are The Waterboys (Thursday), Frank Turner (Friday) and us on Saturday. The barnstorming Gogol Bordello join us on Thursday with Richard Thompson and Seth Lakeman playing the Friday.

Cropredy Festival

A reminder too that May is the last month to get your Cropredy tickets at the early-bird prices. From 1 June all tickets go up by £5 so buy now and save a fiver per ticket to spend at the bar!

As we always say, please don’t leave buying tickets until the last minute – we’d hate any of you to miss out!

Buy your tickets here

Finally…

We look forward to welcoming you to our Spring Tour concerts and, later in the summer, to Cropredy.

Love from us all,

Simon, Peggy, Ric, Chris and Gerry.

Full Cropredy line-up announced

Hello Fairporters,

Firstly, a slightly belated ‘Happy New Year’ to you all!

In our last newsletter, we listed the first performers we’d booked for Cropredy 2019 and now we can reveal the news you’ve all been waiting for. Here are the acts that complete the line-up – and what a line-up it is!

Frank Turner and The Sleep SoulsFrank Turner and the Sleeping Souls
Headlining our Friday night, we are delighted to welcome for the first time to Cropredy one of the UK’s most successful solo artists of the past decade – Frank Turner – with his band The Sleeping Souls. Frank’s latest album, the extraordinary ‘Be More Kind’, has taken this punk/folk-rocker to a new level. From the driven punk of ‘1933’ to the beautifully haunting title track, this is an exceptional piece of work. One of the finest live acts out there, we’ve been trying to lure Frank to Cropredy for quite a few years now – and finally, he’s here!

Gogol BordelloGogol Bordello
Celebrating their 20th year together, we welcome, also for the first time to Cropredy, the incredible Gogol Bordello. Combining acts of music, theatre, chaos and sorcery, to say that Gogol Bordello is a fabulous festival act would be the grossest of understatements. In their own words “Gogol Bordello’s task is to provoke audiences out of a post-modern aesthetic swamp and onto a neo-optimistic communal movement towards new sources of authentic energy”. This is going to be VERY special!

The Four of UsThe Four of Us
Brothers Declan and Brendan Murphy from Newry in Northern Ireland are currently wowing audiences as our special guests on the FC Wintour and will be opening proceedings on Friday at noon.

Wilson & WakemanWilson & Wakeman
Damian Wilson is a songwriter and vocalist who has appeared on over 70 separate albums including 5 solo releases. He also played Jean Valjean in Les Misérables on their UK national tour. Adam Wakeman is best known as the keyboard player with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. He has released 9 albums with ‘the old man’ plus 4 solo albums. The new Wilson & Wakeman session album ‘Stripped’ is released this month!

TorsTors
As the name suggests, Tors hail from the county of Devon. Following sagely advice from their Granddad, legendary guitarist Bert Weedon, Matt and Theo decided to form a band and become pop stars. Tors present a mix of beautifully crafted songs with exquisite harmonies.

You can check out the Full line-up here…

Cropredy Tickets

As always, we offer three-day (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) tickets, two-day (Friday and Saturday) tickets and Saturday-only tickets. And as always, our advice is to book early.

All tickets and camping passes are on sale now. You can pay online, by phone or by post. Please visit our website for more information.

Pre-Cropredy Warm-up Shows

We’re holding this year’s warm-ups on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 August at Banbury Trades and Labour Club. Many of you will know this friendly venue from previous warm-up gigs.

The concerts will offer a sneak preview of who will be guesting with us on stage at Cropredy on the Saturday. These two evening concerts always sell out so our advice is book early. You can buy your warm-up tickets here…

Fairport’s Wintour 2019

Our Winter Tour (Wintour) kicked off with a sold out show at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury a few days ago. The tour covers a lot of ground so there’s probably a venue within reach of you.

As mentioned previously, this year’s Wintour gigs will feature an opening performance by our special guests The 4 of Us. Hailed as one of the most acclaimed duos in Ireland, brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy are accomplished singers, instrumentalists and song-writers.

We’d love to welcome you to one of the gigs so check out all the dates and venues on our website…

Finally

We always enjoy meeting you so come and say ‘hi’ on the Winter Tour this month and then on the field at Cropredy in August.

Love from us all,

Simon, Peggy, Ric, Chris and Gerry.
