Fundraising plans for 2013…

Not to achy after the Great South Run on what was an enjoyable run. My fundraising for Children with Cancer UK currently stands at £697.78 (thanks to some recent donations), which added to the £510 raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK gives over £1,200 raised 🙂

There are still a few signed goodies on EBay to be had, with the lively folk rockers Bellowhead sending a signed CD and currently on line is a signed CD from prog rockers Jadis:

What’s next? Well spurred on by this year’s running I am going to attempt a half marathon next May/June time plus the Staines 10K. Ideas for any fundraising most welcome.

I have two charities lined-up, one chosen by Matt Curtis who kindly sponsored me for each of my three races this year. He has chosen the Cleft Lip And Palate Association (CLAPA). Clapa is a support organisation for all those with and affected by cleft lip and palate. One in 700 children are born with this condition – about 1,000 a year in the UK. CLAPA provides information, advice and one to one support through its national network of branches. It also runs confidence-building camps for children and distributes bottles and teats for babies born with cleft lip and palate.

The second one is The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) NDCS is the national charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. We represent the interests and campaign for the rights of all deaf children and young people from birth to independence. NDCS believes that the family is the most important influence on a deaf child’s development. NDCS supports the deaf child through the family as well as directly supporting deaf children and young people themselves.

For these two charities I will again be auctioning off signed goodies via EBay so any contacts much appreciated.

Thank you all again for your support, it is very much appreciated by me and the charities.

Great South Run – completed!

Knackered but finished 🙂 First time I have run further than 10K since 1999. Great day and atmosphere as the people of Pompey made you feel very welcome – even in my Stoke top and scarf. I did get two ‘Come on Stoke!’ on the way round the course. Lovely course running around the historic naval dockyards/HMS Victory and ending up running by the Southsea seafront. The jelly babies counter at nine miles provided a welcome boost  as well. Well organised and run, highly recommended if you fancy a nice flat race.

My finishing time was under two hours – yippee! 1hr 59m 12 secs 15,158th (race field just over 24,000)

Thanks to my lovely kids for their support and musical selections  (my daughter loaded my IPod with delights such as You Me At Six, Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold & Fearless Vampire Killers and I sneaked on some Jimi Jamison, Chris Singleton & Dev Townsend!).

Big thanks to my family, friends, work colleagues, Facebook pals, the bands and authors who kindly donated signed items to auction and all those that have sponsored me, spread the word or liked a Facebook post. I am truly humbled, thanks again.
Now what race next folks 😉

PS Donations still welcome – raising funds for Children with Cancer UK:

It’s race month :)

Great South Run month as race day is on Sunday October 28th. A gentle (cough) ten mile run around the streets of Southsea and Portsmouth resplendent in my Mr Men running top and underneath that my Stoke City top.  Training has been harder this past few weeks due to a painful toe (dropping a jar of marmalade on it is not recommended) but looking forward to the run as there will be 23,000 odd fellow runners and it is onChannel 5 (yes for once something decent to watch on that channel). My daughter has loaded an IPod of specially selected music to keep me going, although some of her musical tastes are loud even for me J

I have raised my fundraising target to £1,000, currently it stands at just over £519 hasnow been raised for Children with Cancer UK:

Training underway for the great South Run

Training now underway for the Great South Run  – ten miles is a far old hike! But with 23,500 runners expected plus a fairly flat course it will have plenty of atmosphere.

Great South Run next up…

Yes I like a challenge and moving from 10k to ten miles will certainly do that. I am delighted to taking part in the Great South Run and raising funds again for Children with Cancer UK. I will try and think of some whizzy ways to raise more vital funds for this charity – any ideas please do get in touch.
